Review and Protect Your Credit every quarter

One of the major obstacles in today's market for consumers wanting to purchase a home is credit scores. Your credit score can effect your loan amount and rate.

We are allowed one free credit report from the three major credit bureaus (Experian, Trans Union, & Equifax) every year right? Well instead of ordering all three at the same time, how about ordering one every four months. This will allow to check your credit every quarter for any changes in your report and protect yourself against possible identity theft.  you can also opt out of credit card offers https://www.optoutprescreen.com.

Thanks for the comment Charles,

it is one of those things "that we will get to later" but with short sale market in my area buyers sometimes have to wait and have their loan approved again b/c it takes soooo long!

Real estate brokers need to check their own credit scores too. When holding a real estate deposit on a deal that does not come together, make it to the closing, that broker can get a credit score grenade erosion caused by a judgement just for holding the deposit until a judge decides what to do with. Despite all the efforts to resolve the deposit dispute, you are names on the judgement that sticks like a blood sucker on your credit report for 7 years. Would you like a couple of those causing higher cost remortgage, any kind of financing rate died to the sacred credit score? Legislation needed to protect brokers not personally responsible for where the deposit ends up.

Akil,

Great Post and great idea to take advantage of getting a free report from each reporting agency.

Thanks for sharing,

I had a conversation today with one of my good friends and I reminded her to get her free credit report before she starts the new home search.  It's good to clear up any errors before you meet with the mortgage person.
