Target, Walmart and Staples are just a few retailers who have begun to advertise their back to school sales as as Realtors, this is also a time were we can seize the opportunity to grab that buyer client and assist them with their new home purchase. Many families will be looking to move during this summer season and they will opt to do so prior to the new school year so now is the time to begin your marketing campaign to drum up the new business. Another niche to consider is the incoming college students who may not have on-campus housing thus they too will be in need of a rental. I know for a fact that Washington DC has many schools like Howard University, American University and George Washington University just to name a few were on-campus housing is not available to many students and they seek out the help/assistance to find off-campus housing. The way I see it, they both pose a good opportunity for additional income during this slow time in our industry so check with your local public school board and/or the offices of some private schools and see if you can attend the upcoming new student orientations. Contact the housing offices of the local universities and colleges and establish a partnership to assist students with their off-campus housing needs. If the retailers are advertising their back to school sells then why shouldn't we as Realtors? We do provide a valuable service to our clients and customers and going back to school is a good opportunity to attract new business!

Good advice and I do have an apartment less than 5 minutes from Georgetown that is listed for sale...but we are planning to rent it out now.

It seems that college towns always have that opportunity for investors and home owners that cannot sell... rent it.
This is a great suggestion for anyone in that position.
