Jim Boggio playing the accordionCotati Accordion Festival

Dust off your squeeze box, the 20th annual Cotati Accordion Festival is right around the corner! This year the Cotati Accordion Festival will be held on August 21st and 22nd. That's right, this is a two day event. The cost is $15 per day (pre-pay, $17 at the door) or $25 for both days. Those 15 and under get in free with an adult. Music is scheduled to start promptly at 9:45AM and will continue until 7:30PM.

The Cotati Accordion Festival (try to say that three times real fast) has grown very large over the years. Once a free event with bleachers and white doves, the magnitude of the sold out crowd has mandated street closures and portable fencing. Some people laugh when they hear about our festival but I have to tell you that this is some SERIOUS stuff!

Jim Boggio statueThe Cotati Accordion Festival was founded in 1991 in large part due to a local hero, Jim Boggio. Jim was a large man with a large heart and was an incredibly gifted musician. There is a bronze statue of Jim in Cotati's La Plaza park where the festival is held. At the time of his death in 1996, Mr. Boggio was considered one of the three best accordionists in the United States by Keyboard Magazine.

Accordionist Dick Contino will be the headliner for this non-stop extravaganza of accordion music! La Plaza park will be jam packed with food, crafts, polka dancing, a jam session tent, and of course, beer and wine! For a complete schedule of events, visit

Curious? Of course you are. Come to the Cotati Accordion Festival on August 21st and/or 22nd and join us in some small town fun! As one of our famed bumper stickers says: Use An Accordion - Go To Cotati, CA... That's The Law!

OK, this sounds like one of those really fun small town events. We're expecting to see some video of you playing the accordion when this event rolls around!

Craig - we have a lot of fun small town events, I love it. Cotati has about 7,300 residents and they really know how to throw a good party. Sorry to disappoint but I don't have an accordion anymore. I used to be pretty good at playing Happy Birthday, but never learned Lady Of Spain :)

When I was in the fifth grade I was inspired by one of my classmates to take accordion lessons.  The amazing thing was my mom and dad let me do it and bought me one!  It was so pretty.....white pearl with glittery blue buttons and keys.  Lucky for them they were able to find a buyer a couple of years later!  I am amazed at the lengths they went to supporting me!

Cynthia, I love small town American events such as this.  My priest plays a tin whistle.  I think more people need to hear those old fashioned musical instruments.  FUN!

Ann - some accordions are REALLY pretty, I'm amazed at the quality of work that goes into each one.

Shirley - will do!

Jay - there is a lot of competition, but the best part is when they all play Lady of Spain together. What a wonderful sound!

Marian - who are you calling old fashioned :)

Liz - it is a lot of fun, a very mixed crowd. There isn't much seating in this park, so the organizers always bring in a slew of hay bales to sit on.
