There's an ap for that!

In today's fast-paced world, one of the biggest problems I and others seem to encounter is not following through with good intentions.  I am often guilty of this myself when it comes to technology.

                                                                iphone

For example, I own a wireless printer, Droid smartphone, and a great laptop.  Do you think my laptop is set up to print to the printer?  Of course not!  Do you think I have downloaded all the great real estate aps into my Smartphone?  Certainly not!

When I purchased these pieces of technology, it was with every intention of implementing them to build my business and to make me be able to "work smarter, not harder".  So far, I have fallen far short of my goals, as I'm sure a lot of us have.

Take a moment to think about all of the untapped resources you have at your fingertips.  For little or no cost, you could put these to use to build your business and save you time and money.  Just a few examples:

  1. Put your Smartphone to its highest and best use.  Actually take the time to read the manual and find out what all it can do for you.  Many open Supra boxes, eliminating the need for a seperate key.  Many take aps such as mortgage calculators or MLS listing indexes you could use out in the field at the touch of a button.
  2. Your GPS.  Is it updated and taking you where you actually need to go instead of telling you that the address doesn't exist even though the house was built in 2007?  Update this or get it for free on that Smartphone!
  3. Your website.  Do you have one, and if so, is is updated with your CURRENT information and listings?  Have you updated your photo and personal information in the last 5 years?  Sometimes, you just need a fresh look.  Has Coke had the same can for 50 years?  You don't need the same look year after year either; you need to progress and innovate constantly.
  4. Do you have your wireless printers set up to work all of your media?  If not, why?  This is a relatively simple task that can allow you to print on the road!
  5. Have you taken a tutorial from your MLS?  These are almost always free and will teach you to utilize tools that you didn't even realize existed!  You will be able to do things that your peers cannot, and they will constantly wonder how you knew how to do the things you do!
  6. www.realtor.org is a warehouse of incredible information.  Keeping abreast of the market is not only crucial to your success in this business, it is a valuable resource to pass on to your clients.
  7. Organizing our databases.  This software is almost always included on your computer already.  Learn how to use it to make staying in touch with clients (not everyone's strong suit for sure) that much easier!

There are certainly many, many more things we have and don't take advantage of.  What other wells do we leave untapped?  What has been the one goal you never quite got around to?

I have apps that I never use.  And, I have a world of them out there.  Thanks for reminding me to take time "to smell the roses".  Finding something useful is something of a chore I put off....but when I do, it is great.  The problem is finding the time.  Finding an app to find more time would be really cool.

How sad but so true.  I work from home and as I sit here at my great laptop and look around me I am surrounded by technology and software purchased but not mastered or only partly being utilized.  It's mind boggling.

For 2 years I've vowed to update and get the Website out of Front Page and up to standards in Expression Web and have yet to do it.  I have been through all sorts of learning manuals and CD's to get the CSS stuff down and just when I'm ready to really get into it other stuff hits the fan.  Oh, I could go on and on but I'm sure you get the drift.

Anyway, it's good to know I'm not the only one!
