Race Across the Spectrum...

Last Saturday at Crockett Park in Brentwood, TN, the Brown Center for Autism held its first annual "Race Across the Spectrum". The event showcased a 5K Run/Walk to support the 1 in 110 children and their families who are affected by Autism. In all, about 450 runners and hundreds of supporters showed up for the event. The proceeds went to to support research-based early intervention for young children impacted by Autism in Middle Tennessee.
Autism is a heart-breaking, genetic disorder that affects the neural development in young
children. It impairs social interaction and communication by affecting how the brain processes information. There are 3 recognized disorders; the causes which remain unclear. Private organizations such as the Brown Center for Autism have given parents of autistic children hope. Hope that their children can lead "normal" lives. It has been proven that behavior patterns can be modified through early interaction with "normal" children.

Michael, What a great event for the kids and family to support research to find out why we are now seeing so many children with Autism.   Hopefully there will soon be a cure.

Good turn out for a first time event Michael. This was for a great cause. Now if we could get normal children to willingly accept them in the early formative years.

Michael: Seems organizations are putting on programs of this type of all over the United States to raise awareness and funds for research. Americans genuinely support events like this with a good heart to help others in need and support.

Thanks for the spotlight here on autism Michael.  Autism has touched my closest friend's daughter and the young girl has made enormous strides through the loving care and help of her family and friends.
