Ct Wine Festival July 31 & Aug 1 at the Goshen Fairgrounds

For weeks now I have seen an Interesting Billboard alongside the highway in Waterbury advertising a most unusual event.

The Connecticut Wine Festival at the Goshen Fairgrounds in Goshen Ct, right in the heart of Litchfield County.

The Ct Winegrowers are the sponsors of this event, at which vineyards from all over Connecticut will be represented, offering a taste of their special wines.

There are almost 30 vineyards here in Connecticut, with distinct wines to appease the palate of almost any wine connoisseur.

Enjoy wine, food samples, live music, and buy great CT Wines by the bottle to take home!

Tickets purchased at the festival are $25 daily/$40 weekend, $10 designated drivers and under 21.

Advanced tickets are on sale NOW!
Ticket Prices are $20 daily/$40 weekend, and $10 for designated drivers/under 21.

Hi Ed,

It seems like everyone is growing vines these days, even Hawaii.  Love wine tastings, we moved from Napa to the Central Coast where there is even more vines turning into wine!  LOL

Can't resist a wine post, even if it is from Connecticut. I think the biggest difference among all the wine areas is that some are naturally easier to grow great vines. Apart from that, once a good winemaker gets his hands on the juice, anything can happen anywhere. On the other hand, I think I have a much better chance at listing vineyard properties than most Connecticut agents.

I grew up with a family of wine makers. The wine grapes all came from California and usually the end of September was the time the grapes started to appear. It was nothing then for my dad and the rest of the uncles, and friends to make 3-4 barrels of wine (150-200 gallons) and then wait for the New Year to open it. Then the wine tasting was whose house they visited on a given night. No such thing as a designated driver then.

Ed, The Connecticut Wine TY-asting Festival sounds fabulous...nothing like that here as we have state-owned liquor stores. And the stories your family could tell about winemaking...Salut!

I did not know that there were great wines coming out of Connecticut. I kew there were some great wine drinkers there but not that you produced your own.

Ed - Like you I remember my grandmother making homemade wine every year.  She had grapevines in the backyard and I can remember so vividly the barrels of wine that came from them.  Of course the best part was being able to taste it when it was done.

I love red wines and this sounds like such a wonderful way to sample some the great wines made right here in CT.  You can be my designated driver! :)

I've always wanted to go to a wine festival, but this time of year is too hot for me.  If it were a little closer to home, maybe...   'Hope you're going and that you'll have an extra taste for me.

Ed, the wine trail of Connecticut is one of the best kept secrets, we have done different parts of it over the past two years, every vineyard is different.
