Ten Weeks in the Rain: A Word of Thanks

By
Real Estate Agent with GreatNorfolkHomes.com (757) 560-0881

Today marks the halfway point in my 100,000 points in 20 weeks quest.  (OK, OK, I know, it's not about the points...that's just why the new ActiveRain leaderboard is so popular!)  At this point, I am over halfway there, so I would like to encourage all you other ActiveRain newbies that it is possible to throw yourself into this and get active on ActiveRain.  One of the best things about ActiveRain is the people that you meet along the way.  Please indulge me as I give credit to a few of the people who have provided an excellent example of the amazing caliber of people you meet on ActiveRain.

Roy Kelley:  He was quick to tell me about Localism and encouraged me to get involved there.  Thank you Roy!

Blogging Diva Barbara Todaro:  She amazes me with the volume of quality blogs she produces. I don't know how she does it!  I am sure to find something useful whenever I stop in on Barbara's blog.

Gerry Michaels (aka Gettysburg Gerry):  He told me about NVu software that allows you to better format your blog posts and how to structure my blogs so that they were more easy to read.  It was invaluable information that has truly helped me to improve my blogs.  Thank you Gerry!

My Three Favorite Inspectors:  Michael Thornton in Nashville, Russel Ray in San Diego and last but certainly not least, Jay Markanich in my home state of Virginia.  You guys provide a lot of great information to this forum.

Short Sale Svengalis Melissa Zavala on the West Coast and Broker Bryant Tutas on the East Coast.  If you have a question about short sales, you can find the answer on one of their blogs.

Wicked humor can be found on the blogs and comments left by J Philip Faranda,  TLW (aka Broker Bryant's wife) and Alan May.  These folks always make me smile and sometimes laugh so hard that people think I have lost my mind.

I can always find something uplifting on the blogs of Pat Kennedy.  She serves as a great example of keeping it positive.  And I love her week in review blogs!

No tribute to the quality of bloggers on ActiveRain would be complete without a nod to the contributions of Lenn Harley.  I don't know which I enjoy more, her blogs or her comments which are often punctuated with her trademark "HA!"  You have to admire someone who calls it like it is and always says what is on her mind.  I can learn a lot from someone like Lenn!

My list could go on and on but I just wanted to use this halfway mark as a way to say thank you...thank you...thank you.  The quality of people is what makes me come back to ActiveRain day after day.  The points are fun, but the people are priceless!

Kathryn,

That's quite a task. Let's see what is possible at high gear. 10 comments a day x 7 = 1,750 a week

10 blogs a week at minimum (with no responses, and no features) at 225 a post = 2,250

Together - 4,000  a week. In comes to 40,000 in 10 weeks and 80,000 in 20 weeks.

You gotta rake a lot of comments on our posts to make up the difference

Good  luck to you

And I love it on the network where so many seriously trying to persuade themselves that they could not care less about points (LOL)

Kathryn,  Congrats on your milestone.  We started blogging at about the same time, but you are certainly leaving me in the dust!  LOL!  I have had such a great time getting to know so many people, including you!  I look forward to reaching that 50K milestone in the near future.

I think it is really great that you set such a lofty goal! I'm just under 50,000 points and I've been here since December - but I still love doing it and get inspired by the prolific bloggers you mentioned.

Congratulations on the points, and they don't matter. Take them to Starbucks and see if they'll buy a cup of coffe.

Points are a meaure of your accomplishment; how you compare with your piers; what you have learned and how you use the skill gained that matters.

Wow!! Thanks for all of you stopping by!

Sharon: I totally agree!  AR Rocks!

Deanne:  I will race you to 100,000 points!  Come on, I double-dog dare you!

Margaret:  Thanks!

Gary: Will do!

Steven:  I am pretty sure there have been others, they probably are just not as shameless in announcing it as I am.

Lesley:  I am hoping I can make it.  I need another contest!  Those bonus points really do come in handy.

Alan:  You do make me laugh!

Patricia:  Thanks for the encouragement!

Chris:  Thanks for the points...I mean the kind words.

Jon:  Thankfully, there are things like contests, profile points, reporting spam, invite points, etc. that help make up the difference.  (And yes, you are right. I think that the points are a motivator, otherwise we would not have all howled in indignation when the format for states changed!)

Deborah:  I would not have guessed that you started when I did..I thought you were a seasoned contributor here at ActiveRain!

Michelle: I still have a long way to go in what can be learned here on AR.  My to-do list just keeps getting longer!

Mary Kay:  We shall see. Even if I don't make the goal, I am happy!  I have gained so much in just ten weeks.

Lyn:  Thanks!

Ellie:   Ah, but you have been to RainCamp and I have not.  Sigh...perhaps soon!

Bill:  But wouldn't it be great if Starbucks would take the points?

Vickie:  How true!  I did not get it until I jumped in with both feet.

Don:  I will do my best!

Cheryl:  That is why the points are so ingenious.  You start by being competitive and then it turns out you learn a ton along the way.
