New York AG Targets Rescue Firms
Andrew Cuomo has expanded his investigation and is sending cease-and-desist letters to mortage rescue companies warning them to "immediately end all misleading and illegal conduct."
According to the AG's office, a total of 213 of these companies in New York have "now been put on notice."
The ongoing investigation revealed that most of these companies collect exorbitant upfront fees of at least $1,000.
Often, these companies engage in deceptive and illegal marketing practices to lure customers and then fall short on their promises.
Sadly, most of the customers are in distress and are grasping for any bit of hope to save their home.
There are honest & reliable sources of assistance for these homeowners but unfortuantely time is usually not an ally.
Education is the key, homeowners need to understand their choices...if someone wants to charge you $1,000, or $1,500 or more then you need to immediately hang up the phone & call the authorities.
