Wallingford Sonic Drive-In Breaks Sales Record

More Sonic News

This past Saturday, July 24th,the Wallingford Sonic Drive-In held a one day Special Grand Opening event from 6 AM to midnight. I figured this event would be well attended, even packed to the gills. It seems I was right.

Today, everyone who is signed up for Sonic's email newsletter received the following email, and it was also posted on the Sonic of CT web site:

"We would like to thank all of our Sonic Drive-In Fans and Customers who came out to support our 'Special Grand Opening Event' on Saturday the 24th.

Because of you, the Wallingford, CT store broke the record for the highest sales in one day for any Sonic Drive-in across the country! The CT store beat the record that was previously held by Peabody, MA!

We would like you to know we appreciate all your support and business and are proud to have 'The Sonic Experience' a part of CT"

Thank you to all our Fans and supporters!!

Sincerely and with Great Appreciation, The Mesite Family, The Sonic Management Team, Staff and The A-Team Members"

Well, I'd say that's a pretty good indication of good attendance! It's saying a lot that the Wallingford store broke a record for ALL Sonic restaurants throughout the United States. That's over 3,500 locations and counting! But, there is scuttlebutt going around that the record won't last long, as residents of both the upcoming Manchester and Milford locations are boasting that each will break Wallingford's record. Will they or won't they?

I'm betting NO. What do YOU think?

Hi Pat & Wayne

I have never been in the Sonics eatery. I am interested in anything that goes on in the food business as I was in it for 6 years.........Is it pricing or the food that is the draw? What is its specialty.....and do you eat there?

Thank you

Richie: Sonic's big draw is their food. They have some signature items, like the Sonic Burger, the Chili Cheese Tater Tots (too die for, BTW!), the Foot Long Quarter Pound Coney hot dog, their huge (over 160K combinations) assortment of drinks headed by their Cherry Limeade, and their Sonic Blast desserts. Pricing is comparable to other fast food places, maybe slightly cheaper, but it's the food that brings people in. And yes, we DO eat there! we were there for an invite-only pre-opening event to let people try out the place and it was great. The worst thing now is, since they've finally opened, the traffic and the wait to get in is horrendous. Many people who drove a long ways to try out the food were turned away because the wait was so long (well over an hour) and traffic was backing up on the main road. I think once the novelty wears off anad other locations are opened in the state it will become a much better experience for the consumer.

Robert: Yeah, so do we! They teased us for 2 years with commercials for a restaurant that didn't exist in the state, but now that it's here it's great...except for the loooong waits! Thanks for stopping by!

I so love Sonic.  Nice plug for a business that is obviously important to your area.

Pat and Wayne, I am not surprised.  Given the wait, the lines, and the traffic this will most likely not be the only record they break.

Michael: Thanks! Yes, this has been a major event in Wallingford for the better part of the past year. The hype it's generated has been huge, and it has been important to the area: it gives us another choice in our dining out plans, plus it's brought 130 jobs to the town and its financial impact is still to be determined, but it should be significant, if breaking the Sonic one day sales record is any indication.

George: That's entirely possible, although once the other 7 Sonics open up in the state, the focus on Wallingford will probably fade quickly. But we'll still eat there!!
