Blackmail...has it's place.

black mail boxes as art...blackmail artBlackmail is a nasty little game some people play on each other.  Blackmail though it exists is not a nice game to play, further more, it is not really what this post is about.

Art is the theme of my post.  Blackmail is just art, at least in Denver.

Yesterday I was doing my normal Sunday walk around having fun shooting my Canon.  I came across 3 black mail boxes with different sayings on them.  The sayings are:

"I told you  never to call me here someone will find out"

"I have evidence of your secret life"

"I'll send the negatives to the police if you don't send money"

The sayings on the black mailboxes were amusing, I clicked a shot, not really thinking about it.  Later last night while downloading the pics, it came to me....black mail boxes....BLACKMAIL!

Art...sometimes it's takes awhile to understand.  Charming?

darn.... Maureen took my question, asking if this is in the museum area of town. ANd that was one question that popped into my mind when you first told us what this was about.  Example... Philadelphia has an art museum area, but there is also art stationed throughout the area of Philly.

Again, you caught my attention. I was hoping for a juicey story. But you do have to love art and understand it. KK, some great pictures.

I needed a laugh today.  It is a shame you don't see more stuff like this out there to lighten your day.

Great minds think alike Jeff?  Columbus has a great  "gallery district" just north of downtown.  I don't know if there is really anyplace for street installation of art there...

I actually work in Worthington which was settled in the 1800's by folks from New England and it is designed as a New England Village with a green at the center.. great place for art...

I think it is a great idea to walk arround with your camera. You never know what you will see. With digital I find I can take 100s of shots just to get the few great ones.

Maureen... yes, great minds do think alike.  I just hate coming to a party late. Especially when I have something to say and someone beats me to it.... lol

But in regards to a true party... I am usually the first to show up.  ;o)

Rich ~ I guess you could go out there and paint your mailboxes, but then you'd probably end up in jail...not a good thing.

Larry ~ Thanks for stopping by!

Eddy ~  Not in LA?  Guess Denver has LA beat on one thing!

Deb ~ I don't know who the artist is, but I will try to find out and tell you.  They just might make a good stager...what kind of property do you have in mind?  LOL I hope it's not a courthouse!  :)

Jeff ~ don't forget Philly has the cool old broken bell!  Philly has a lot.  Aren't you in Jersey?  Do you go across state lines?

Jason ~ laughter is good for the heart...glad you enjoyed it.

MM ~ I think bring art to the street is so important. We are all so busy in our lives, sometimes we don't get to go visit it.

Christine ~ I am almost never without my camera.  Digital is so wonderful and easy to work with.  Yes, sometimes it takes 100 shots to get one good one.  But when  you get that good one...it's soooo good!  Like the one I good this weekend of my 9 month old faster than the speed of light crawling grandson!

Jeff ~ Back again?  :)  Guess we should have a party, you are all here now!

Thanks everyone.  Happy Halloween!

KK... yes, back again. Yes, I do across the river, in my George Washington boat. Seriously though, Philly has so much to offer and not just in regards to the arts...but theatre, restaurants, pubs, clubs, the architecture, parks, musuems, and yes....the arts.

Outta here....  my ore just broke and I am drifting away...  "Mango"

Jeff ~ for some reason I associate Philly with those soft pretzels.  I must have eaten them there when I was a kid.

George ~ do you mail your blackmail often?  Or use FedEx?  :)

Having lived in Denver during my school years, I'm not real sure where this is...down near Larimar (sp) downtown? It's been about 25 years since I've been back so I'm sure there are a lot of changes since then.  I heard that you have a new art museum that is quite angular. The same architect is building high-rise condos here.

Art is in the beholder...wonder what the folks in Denver think about this particular form of art.

Gena,  Larimer Square is in LoDo, if you continue going west you will come to River Front Park.  All of that was pretty nasty real estate when I came to town 10 years ago.  Now it's been developed into some of the nicest, most desirable place to live in the city.

Daniel Liebskind is building high rises in your town? Interesting I thought these were "the only"  residential buildings he did in the U.S.  Hummm, need to check that out!

Yes our new art museum is stunning.  I haven't been inside yet, but I've been stalking the outside for ages.  It's fun to photograph, or rather challenging.

The Blackmail boxes I find fun.  It took me all day to figure out their meaning.  When I did it cracked me  up!  My hubby too. He's not usually dense about those things.

You do need to come back and Visit Denver it's changed a lot!  Be sure to look me up when you do!

Kristal, A very good friend of mine that still lives in Denver attending the opening of the new Denver Museum and her feedback was that she felt it was not Feng shui but had interesting lines.

If you would like to view what Daniel Liebskind has in the works for Sacramento, visit my blog.

Thanks for the separate email this morning about my blog. I got several comments on how it should have been * but alas the Rain gods had other fish to fry.

I can't believe my sister lived in Denver for over 5 years and never commented on its "arts in public places" program.  I love every single piece you do about Denver.  I just wrote a post about our performing arts center.  Nothing like introducing the arts in our daily lives.

Gena ~  Thanks for setting me straight on the Liebskind thing.  I know when they first started pre-selling the Museum residences in  Denver they said it was "his only" residential project in the U.S.  I guess it's ok that he keeps building, you can't be first or only forever.

Ines ~ Art in Denver has become more prominent recently.  If it's been awhile since she was here...that could be her excuse!
