Are YOU Part of the "In" Crowd?

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty of California, Inc. CA DRE #01490977

Does being part of the "in" crowd drive you crazyWe all remember high school - a time marked, in part at least, by being part of the "in" group...or not. It was a big deal. For many, perhaps traumatic, depending on whether you were in or out.

Folks generally knew which group you were part of. And we were painfully aware as well. Some groups also arose out of how much money your family had...or not. Or where you lived. And other characteristics. It was often not nice to not be part of the "in" crowd but sometimes you had no choice. Someone ELSE made that decision.

Cliques continued in college, depending on the school, whether you were a frat guy or in a sorority, along with other groups, too. Perhaps you were part of the party crowd. Or maybe one of the studious ones.

Being part of the "in" crowd, or not, is still a big part of our lives. So much of it revolves around technology and the "IN"ternet these days

Are YOU part of the "in" crowd??

Does being part of the "in" crowd drive you crazyDo you use a Droid? Android? Blackberry Storm? iPhone? Something similar?

Do you have at least one Facebook Business page?

Do you Tweet? And Retweet? Use Hootsuite? Know about Twellowhood?

Do you check in with the newest darling, Foursquare?

Is there an iPad in your collection?

Are you "skyping" with clients and prospects?

Do you eyejot? Have you scribd? Are you a Screenr?

Is a Flip video camera in your pocket or purse at all times? And do you use it often?

Are LOL, IRL, F2F, BTW, IDK, IMO, OMG, TMI and similar abbreviations automatic?

Do you TM, IM, EM, DM and leave VM?

Are you on ActiveRain and active?

ActiveRain logo

I like to think I AM part of the "in" crowd. I try, at least. But it seems that whenever I go to some sort of convention with a focus on technology I end up feeling I am not really quite there. And perhaps I won't ever be.

Or when I think I really AM with it, someone else comes along to make me realize "dude, you ain't with it at all."

I'm OK with that. I do what I can and what I enjoy and it works for me.

In reality, I think most of us ARE part of the "In"ternet crowd, unless you are living under a rock. And there is still so much that has to be done face to face with our clients.

How about you?

No way.  I am not part of the "IN" crowd.  It's too much.  I am here in the Rain, my own blogs & website, I hate FB, I have never Tweeted, I do not have a Droid, Blackberry, or whatever that other thing was you said, I don't even have a laptop or an Ipad...

And you know what?  I am ok.

Jeff - 7 out of 10, if I counted right - I guess I'm with the "in crowd" and proud of it. Now I have to check out a couple of them that I was not aware.

Fun post!

Hey Jeff - This post was great!   Hey, it makes me think I am doing pretty good.  In High school, I know I was a DORK.  But, with the "IN"ternet now....I am trying to keep up.   Best things for me are being ACTIVE in ActiveRain.   At the last RE/MAX convention, I finally learned to get current by dumping my Palm now use an iPhone.  Best new tool I found this year.   I ain't a twitter queen, but use Facebook for business and abuse it playing Poker and Mafia Wars (chewing gum for the brain).  I even own a flip video and it's in my purse...but I never use the darn thing.  It's a gadget I had to get and never perfected using it.

Jeff - I agree with you, while I do most of the things you listed above, not all. And sometimes don't feel quite there. But thats ok because education takes time.

Jeff - Well it's official:  I AM (STILL) NOT A PART OF THE IN CROWD!   Wasn't a part of it in school (high school or college) and still am not a part of it.  While I do engage in some of the same activities that the "IN" crowd engages in, I am most certainly not entrenched and I am perfectly fine with that.  I've lived this long without conforming to the "IN" crowd mentality and I am absolutely positive I can live the rest of my life NOT being a part of the "IN" crowd.

Jeff- I was looking pretty "IN" until I hit Eyejot, scribd and screenr.  Well, this is bringing back high school memories, so I have to go to my Glee Club meeting now.  I'll check in later. Seriously, I've had my eye on a Flip and have never met a gadget I didn't like or want.

I thought high school had a big "in crowd" but being in RE for over 10 years now - we have the biggest group of cliques, groupies, etc.  It amazes me.  If those people in the "in crowd" were financing my career I would care.  I just trying to find out what technology is best suited for me and go from there.

Lori - well it's a recent thing for me, but at the recent Sellabration convention for CRS it was a huge deal.

Kathleen - I would say you ARE part of the "in" crowd.

Jenna - with being on AR having your website, etc. I think that definitely qualifies as the "in" crowd.

Hi Jeff, I am sort of in and I really do try. I love technology although I barely scratch the surface of most of the details and the finer points for sure. I have a lot of Apps on my iphone that I don't really have the time to use. But they are handy if I am looking for something or like the new one I wrote about yesterday. Technology will keep getting more and more advanced and it will cost more and more $$ to keep up, while rendering a lot of what we have now as useless. The Internet is becoming so valuable though, you can just take it to the bank that very soon we will paying more to access it ( faster speed of transmission) and then taxed on how much we use it.

No, no, no, Facebook Business Page, yes.  Bookmarked this.  I need to catch up.  I have a Palm Pre because it offered a free mobile hot spot for two years.  Before that, it was the BB, which was very serviceable.  Thanks for the guilt trip.
