Hydro Bills in London To Increase 17% in August

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Envelope Real Estate Brokerage Inc

Residents in London Ontario are going to see an increase of 17% in their electrical bills August 1 and other increases over the next two years!

London Hydro is spinning stories how change is good, how they are going to hold the hands of Londoner's and other blink blink wink wink stories.

To be fair, Ontario Hydro is partially to blame for increasing rates by overpaying and cloud dreaming about solar, it's one sided contracts and un-competitive awarding of contracts.

We as citzens of London and Ontario are scapegoats and victims of inneffieciencies, inflated salaries and bonuses and duplication of services.

Thank you London Hydro for the honour of turning the lights on and off and with smart meters, you will allow me to think for myself or Big Brother will, if you allow it.

That seems really unfair!

Maya: Unfair for some bureaucrats is when they do not receive 75% bonus on top of their salary.

I have two rental properties in London, ON. I am sure the rental board would allow me to hike the rent 17% to cover the cost......

I guess we just end up working harder to pay the bills.... when do I get to work harder to line my pocket!!! geesh!

Jason, I know where you are coming from and I am already hearing repercussions from large landlords and their tenants.

Ty - What is the 17% increase for?  HST has already been implemented and we have been paying time of use already for a few months.

Ty,

17% is crazy! That's way over the rate of inflation. I would like the option to buy hydro from Quebec or New York.

Brian: With the rise of Hydro rates, taxes and water rates, London will have to be very careful in not overpricing itself.

Is it time to get out of town? We must leave it up to your expertize... Is London going to overprice themselves as a 'place to live' community... Keep us informed Ty.

Ty - Barrie would agree with much of what you say and probably a lot you don't say ..... I'll never forget when his dad had a mortgage burning party with his final mortgage payment paid he said

"My mortgage is now paid but the city now wants more every month than my mortgage payment was"

Sergio: I don't think so. London Hydro increased rates by 2%, Ontario Hydro and GST contributed to the other increases. Over the next 6 months, all residents in Ontario are going to feel the costs passed down by Ontario Hydro.

Kathy: Exactly and people on fixed incomes are feeling the strain and how tragic to visit a home owner who either has to remortgage or sell their home to make ends meet.

Province Wide Protest Against Hydro One Rates

http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/event.php?eid=185481298153673

We are still hoping for more cities to get on board and take action and organize a protest. Please send us an email if you want to take a stand, organize a protest and show the government we aren't taking this anymore. We have Dryden, Thunder Bay, Ottawa, London and possibly Huntsville. If you live in these cities and want to help, let us know we can connect you with the organizers.

Here in London we need lots of volunteers to draw as much attention to this as possible. I will be contacting the city and the police to let them know of our peaceful protest. If you have any thoughts, ideas etc please feel free to leave your remarks and suggestions. This is the early beginnings of what I hope to be a great turn out. Ottawa will be holding theirs the same day and it looks like it will be a fairly large protest. Let our voices be heard

People are still needed to organize protest in Toronto, Windsor, and anything in between, spread the word
