Taxation Without Representation

It is a sad state of affairs when our own government is lobbying against the voters to keep property taxes where they are. When government gets so big that the private sector can not support it and it effects business, then we as citizens need to do something about it. Contact your congressman and tell him to start representing the people that elected him and take some action to bring our county government under controll and reduce the cost of government.

The private sector goes thru cost cutting every year. I went thru cost cutting, downsizing, right sizing, and do better with less, when I was with RCI for 30 years. The share holders expect public companies to do this every year. Why can't government do the same thing?

Did you notice that when ever government is faced with a cost cutting they reduce services to the public. Why don't they get rid of some of the unnecessary people they hire that do a bad job of managing our tax money?

Our state legislature did a bad job of giving us a reduction on our insurance this year. After a lot of B. S. they told us our insurance costs would go down, my windstorm gave me a 10% reduction and my homeowners gave me a 28% increase. You do the math. So much for government help.

And finally, Dade County has one of the lowest graduation % in the country. This comes after we give millions to education from the lottery and after our state legislature exempted education from the recent property tax cuts put in place to reduce property tax. Would you care to look at your projected prorperty tax and see what the largest part of it is? You guessed it "SCHOOL TAX". One of the largest spending lobbyists in our state capital is the Miami-Dade Public Schools. So they use the tax money to lobby against the public that gave it to them. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

The real estate profession is only the tip of the iceberg, soon lenders will be hurt and the construction industry will feel the effects of this "Taxation Without Representation". If we the public continue our benign neglect then we don't deserve any better than we are getting, which is the shaft.

Well said. The bigger problem is that we have come to rely on the quick fix and also the demand for immediate gratification. Seems to be that is it fast becoming the American way. Sadly it is taking it toll.

When 9/11 , I thought that this tragedy would awaken the American consciousness. It did but for such a short period of time. The upcoming elections they say are about change. I fear not any good changes are on the way any time soon.

Change needs to come within the person and society will adapt and embrace. Thinking that changing society without first modifying the behavior and thinking of the individual is believing in fantasies. If you desire a forest of Maple trees and all you plant are Hemlock, drinking the syrup of the later will never taste sweet.

Tell me about it. I live in New Jersey and taxes are out of control and we get less and less in return for ever increasing taxes. From the top down government is completely corrupt. Instead of trying to find ways to curb spending and cleaning up poorly run bureaucracy they simply find a new way to increase taxes or add new ways to tax residents. That's what government does though. They don't have to consider budget restraints like a business because they can just force their constituents to foot the bill. The problem is rampant from the federal government down to local governments and as long as people rely on government to control and "help" them it will get worse.
