Cardiff Kook Swallowed by a shark??? Oh My!

Yes, that's right. The Cardiff Kook [pronounced KooooooK] was swallowed (almost) whole by a shark over the weekend. I know I am not the first one to report it, but I HAD to.

Cardiff Kook

Even the mayor said the prank played on the Cardiff Kook made him laugh and he can't stop smiling. The level of genius that some people go through to to prank the Cardiff Kook is just outstanding and downright entertaining!

The poor artist that rendered the "surfing" kid has caught nothing but flack from local surfers and critics alike for not looking very "surfy". The Cardiff Kook looks as if he is walking on water with his arms stretched out and limp wrists. *Disclaimer* I myself am not an artist and could not do this either, so this is just my physical description of the Cardiff Kook and not my artistic eye criticizing the artist in any way*.

The amazing thing is how this paper mache'd shark was built to entomb the 16' tall Cardiff Kook statue. Too bad it has to come down soon.. It has drawn so many visitors in the last couple days just hoping to get a picture before the city of Cardiff hauls it away.

So pranking this statue is a recurring thing?  That is awesome.

Yeah.  It's pretty classic.  They had a footbal helmet on it during the superbowl!

Hi Josh & Julie, The jaws theme is clever and entertaining for the area.  You certainly have a beautiful ocean background for those snapping pictures of it.

Thanks Tamara,

to add to the cleverness...I guess the prankster had positioned a shark fin in the bike lane or something for a few days leading up to Saturday...getting closer and closer and supposedly circling it's prey.

Gotta love it.

Just another Shark attack in the San Diego area... the big question that has been circling round is which one would you prefer to stay? "Shark" or "Kook"

Thanks for the comment Cody!

I actually think it's pretty cool that the "kook" seems to have found his niche.  If it would've been a shortboarder the longboarders would've hated it.  If it would'be been a longboarder the shortboarders would've hated it.

With the "kook" everyone wins...even the shark!  the creativity the kook has spurred is all time in my book.  I actually talked to a friend in New Jersey the other day regarding the recent prank.

Cardiff Kook

Let's throw the City of Encinitas a bone so they stop complaining about the cost to clean up the Kook. Get a shirt and help fund future artists!

Thanks for contributing to our blog kook!  I dont care what anyone says your cool in our book.  Julie and I actually work with lot's of future artists.  One day one of our friends will make it big like you and we'll help them find a house to live and get all creative in.

I'm a firm believer that we're all much more creative than we think...we're just busy trying to make a living and that tends to get in the way and stifle the creativity.  I'm 33 and I just sold my first peice of art about 2 weeks ago...so I think I'm on track to become a full time artist by the time I'm 78...I cant wait! More power to ya for keeping the dream alive my friend!  See you soon.
