New Paltz is a unique destination for outdoor enthusiasts, American historians, wine aficionados, gourmets, music lovers, and parents of children attending State University at New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz). Such outdoor activities include world class rock climbing, hiking in the over 25,000 acres of the preserved open space of Monhonk and Minnewaska State Park, kayaking the Wallkill River, mountain biking on the carriage roads in the Mohonk Preserve, triathlons, etc. In the Winter, there is cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
