Rezoning My Comfort Zone

Comfort Zone Caution

So, what have YOU done lately to break out of your comfort zone?

This question recently got me thinking about how long it has been since I've even HAD a comfort zone.  As a relatively new broker in town, it seems like life itself has become a new and challenging experience and I'm loving the thrill of each new day.

And of course, in the midst of getting all 'hippy-dippy' and existential yesterday I was faced with a challenge that made my pupils dialate and my heart race.  Door. To. Door.  Yeah, I said it.  Just the words make my hands sweat.

It turns out that when you have a good plan, something good to offer and you focus on the people instead of the 'lead' or 'prospect', it's actually a pretty enjoyable process.  A teammate and I basically took a walk in a lovely neighborhood and met some really interesting neighbors.  We handed out a lot of information and received more information back than we could have hoped for.  I even ran into one of the ladies this morning at breakfast and had another nice chat.

And I didn't die.  Or faint.  Or annoy anyone (at least not visibily!).  There was no visible scarring nor gnashing of teeth.  I made some new contacts and proved to myself that rezoning my comfort zone doesn't have to hurt too badly.

So, what have YOU done lately to break out of your comfort zone?

It seems like rezoning your comfort zone is what everyone needs once in a while!

Great post! Even the Denver County they updated their zoning code, but not their comfort zone code!

Thanks for sharing,

Hi Danielle:  Your out of your comfort zone walk reminds me...I remember 15 years ago I used to get up really, really early and pass out my notepads to the same area every month.   One day I was chatting with one of the homeowners as she was outside and she showed me a drawer full of my notepads that she had saved over the last five years.   (The good old days!  before the Internet!)

Wow, that would be out of a comfort zone!    I have knocked on a few doors when I had a buyer that just HAD to be in a specific neighborhood.    I did find a seller that wanted to sell!     You Go Girl!

Michael - so true! Its tough but necessary, especially in this industry.

Adam - Thanks!

Jane - that is so funny to hear.  My Dad had a very similer experience when listing a house about 20 yrs ago.  He had a great listing apmt and was headed out the door when he noticed the side of the refridgerator was decorated with the past ten years of his magnetic calendars, all very well used.  He'd never heard a word from these folks before then but was pretty thankful for sticking with the farming over the long term.  Glad that yours worked out as well!

Joan - Thanks!  It was my first time going door to door and I can only hope to have as good of a result as you had.  I could send that 'you go girl' right back 'atcha!
