Gateway Park

Brookville, Ohio is growing community west of Clayton that has 5,289 citizens (as of the 2000 census).  It started as a general store, like many small suburbs of Dayton, established by Warren Estabrook in 1832.  In 1874 it was incorporated with a total citizenry of 425 people.

Brookville thrived due mainly to the railroad stop on the line between Dayton and Greenville. The Dayton/Greenville line was completed in 1852 causing business to spring up.

Brookville High School

Brookville has recently built a new high school and prides themselves on the education of their youth.

The Brookville Blue Devils are an athletic program to respect in southwest Ohio.

Wow, how many little towns started with a general store!  Tyson's Corner VA did and you should see it today!

I remember Brookville in the late 80s....

I love finding little bits and pieces of the old post office / general store / railroad station in the little towns in Central Ohio because I love history.

Jack and Izzy - When I was at the California State Railroad Museum, the other day, they showed a fascinating movie about the history of the railroad in this country.  It is amazing how many areas of our nation came into existence because of the railroad.

I can't believe a new high school in this day and age, and in the Midwest, named itself the Blue Devils!

Jay, I think all of them around here started with a little general store.

Maureen, They've done a good job with the little whistle stop station and store that has been recreated and restored.

Every little bend in the track around here seems to have given birth to a small community Myrl.

Russel,  Believe it or not a number of communties in Ohio have new schools.  Including Dayton City Schools, although they are now in their second year of the building project.

Brookville has been named the Blue Devils since I can remember.  I googled and got the name of a French army unit (elite mountain troops). I have asked a teacher in Brookville to run down some history for me.
