I recently had the opportunity to spend some time in downtown Gretna and had forgotten what a charming, fun place it is.
With the open air market this weekend and always excellent restaurants I'll be making sure it's nearly as long till my next afternoon there.
Despite the heat, live local musicians added to the lightened mood, and just enough breeze blowing off the Mississippi made it even a pleasure to sit out on the nearby coffee shop patio for delicious iced tea. Ahhh!
Downtown Gretna looks like a nice place to go shopping and spend some time. I love the outdoor markets its like getting back to basics.

Gretna looks like I remember it - I actually live in New Orleans - went to HS and college @ Tulane - good times... good memories!!
Diane, it's got the feel of a small town, but is only minutes from downtown New Orleans.
Noah, it seems the Westbank is heating up. There's just better bang for the buck over there right now, and I hope that means that downtown Gretna and the yearly "Gretnafest" will continue to charm us all for decades to come!
