I recently went on vacation in Naples Maine for a family reunion. Although it was a long drive from Buffalo, New York, it was worth it.
This is a wonderful, peaceful place to visit. We were lucky enough to find a beautiful home on Trickey Pond to rent. "Remains of the Day" was a fabulous home. Plenty big enough for a large group, with everything you needed. Just show up with your clothes. I've never been on vacation before where I actually felt like I was home. We did not want to leave. The view from the yard and deck was breathtaking. We were so at peace there, we barely left only to buy food and maybe an afternoon of shopping. I only hope that we can some day get back there again. Our family even finished about 6 puzzles. We did so many I lost track. We even purchased 2 more to add to the collection. When is the last time you did a puzzle?
This area of Maine has many lakes and ponds. But if you are looking for tranquility, Trickey Pond is it. While other area lakes were rough and did not make for good kayaking and swimming, Trickey Pond was as smooth as can be. It is also the cleanest body of water I have ever seen. We spent our days, swimming, kayaking, fishing and just relaxing by the gorgeous view. Although we did not partake in any boating, many others were waterskiing and tubing and having a great time.
There are plenty of great restaurants nearby and plenty of little shops and antiques stores for afternoons of shopping. Nearby Brigton has many great shops to pick up some unusual trinkets and souveniers. Down on the Naples Causway there are several gift shops and one that sells "Maine" t-shirts 5 for $20.00. The family bought dozens of these and for some in the family became the vacation uniform.
There is one most memorable place called Antique Revival on Rt. 302. This is a fabulous place that looks like it took many decades to create. If you are a collector of any kind, this place is for you. They have everything and I mean everything. So if you are in the area, check them out. But make sure you leave yourself enough time, there is plenty to see. And leave some extra room in the car, you are bound to take something home with you.
I am sure there is much more to do in this area, but we were having such a good time in our own little part of paradise, there was no need to venture very far. so instead of heading to the Carolinas, Florida or other popular destinations, take a look at Maine. We were in the area of Long Lake, Sabago Lake, Brandy Pond and of course our favorite, Trickey Pond. Plan a vacation to this area. You will be happy you did.
