The Tuttle Family Farm, in Dover NH 2 women picking cucumbers on Tuttle family farm

Shipwrecked off the Maine coast, John Tuttle finally made it in 1632 to claim his land grant from King Charles I to start a farm. 378 years later, they ae selling the spread-one of the oldest continuously operated family farms in the country. I don't know who has listed this property in Dover NH, but what a slice of history that will be!

My ancestor, John Dexter, came to this country in the 1600's from Northern Ireland.  I love this story because the Tuttles arrived at about the same time and both came because of land grants. I wish I had such specific history of my family.

We just talked about the Tuttle's at a dinner party last night...the end of an era that has spanned centuries...how sad.

Saw that story last night & although it's time for them to sell it's wonderful that the gorgeous farm land will be preserved forever. thanks Barbara

Thanks Ginny, Sally and David. It is rather sad, isn't it? But what a legacy! They are ready to let go. Hopefully some one will keep it up in a grand tradition.

That is quite a bit of history for one family's real estate holdings. In lots of families you can't make past one generation without some serious legal issues and division disputes.
