With a stretch of 100+ degree days upon us, I wanted to remind everyone that with temperatures like this, you, your home and your pets all need a little extra attention. Heat like this can cause a lot of problems and if you don't take the extra care needed, you could end up with a very negative situation!
Your Home
- Make sure you are watering your lawn and beds. Your lawn, shrubbery, and flowers can be very expensive to replace.
- Make sure you are getting plenty of water at you foundation (All the way around). I don't need to mention how expensive these repairs can be.
- Have your A/C serviced. Many people skip this step in home maintenance. They will check for leaks, the refrigerant levels, replace the filters, oit the motors, etc... This could save you a lot of money on your energy bills and avoid costly repairs, not to mention the extreme discomfort you have when the A/C stops working!
Your Pets
- If you can, bring them inside during the hottest part of the day.
- Make sure they have fresh water at all times.
- Provide a shade area for them when they have to be outside.
- Keep an eye on them... if you see anything that seems unusual, call you veterinarian right away!
You
- The same things apply for you as your pets. If you work or play outdoors, drink plenty of fresh water. When you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated! Drink water all day long.
- Wear sunscreen! Wear sunscreen! Wear sunscreen!
- Plan your day so you won't be out during the mid day hours.
- Pay attention to how you are feeling. If you notice a change, call your doctor. Heat can kill you!
Stay safe everyone and please don't put your home, pets, or yourself at risk. Your home is the single most expensive item you will purchase and you or your pets life can be compromised.
