I just love reading all the wonderful ideas, suggestions and comments that come in from the new and veteran home stagers alike on this website. I read earlier today on another blog that stagers could earn money cleaning homes during the slow times of staging work. I think that is a wonderful idea! I mean who can clean a home better than a home stager? Many commented that cleaning homes just isn't their favorite thing to do and they will hire out cleaning services. If that is in the budget, great! However I am pretty partial to the way I clean and so that would just not be and option for me. I add the cleaning fee in with cost of the stage if I see there is an obvious need to clean and then just do it myself. After all, how can a stage really be complete with out the home shining like new money in the end! Sooo... now that I have commented on that blog, here is one other suggestion that I did not see in there: For those who do vacant staging, one of the services we off to our clients is a "Staging Refresh". It includes dusting, moping, general cleaning and air freshening, etc. After the home has been on the market for a few weeks (hopefully that is not the case, but face it, it happens) offer to come in and refresh the stage for a fee. It's a great way to stay in contact with your client and REA as well as checking back in on your work. I have done this a few times and each time I've gone back there were things out of place and even insects taking the liberty to tour the staged home uninvited! Yuk and what a stage killer! I even found the AC not working once! Needless to say the seller was very pleased with my offer and so appreciated the "Staging Refresh" service.
