Wordless Wednesday Special Place

A good while back I did a post about how everyone should have a special place to go to , to think and relax after work each day. We have developed several little special places around our home that my wife and I visit every evening befor dusk just to enjoy nature and the quiet. We have a long fence outside our bedroom that is litterally covered in a  big variety of blooming vines all of which emit enchanting fragrances that attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and at dusk our very favorite ...the Hawk moths come out during the hottest part of our central Texas summers to savor the nector these flolwers produce.

Talk about an experience involving all the sensors....this is one! These moths are about the size of a small hummingbird . They are not spooked very easily and you can almost touch them .  And sometimes if you are lucky to get close enough, you can hear their little wings making a helicopter sound and occasionally they will brush your face. The fragrance of some of these tropical vines is extraordinary both for humans and God's little miracles that feed on them. So all of this going on at once is better than satellite TV any day in our book!

Take time to smell the roses and enjoy you special place!

Trey, you make me miss Texas. Those late summer nights were wonderful. I was always out as a kid until 9:00 pm. The fire flies were wonderful and while my family did not garden, the previous home owner did and we had many wonderful flowers blooming. I don't recall every seeing a Hawk Moth, however. Beautiful post. So glad you have these special places for evening. Your friend in Shasta County CA.

That is certainly a gorgeous moth Trey.  I see a lot of moths parked on the facade of my house.  and some are gorgeous in their colors and patterns.  Never see them flying though.

Trey: We just came in from sitting outside in the cool of the evening. Whenever the deer see us in our favorite sitting spot here they come, curious to see if we have any leftover fresh veggies for them. It amazes us how they appear from nowhere and are so beautiful with their horns in velvet this time of the year.

When I first saw your photo, I thought I was looking at a hummingbird.  Then I saw it was a moth.  I have never heard of a Hawk moth.  That is a facinating creature!

Hi Trey - lovely and special place you have.

I found mine this summer - my dog has heart problems and can't take the desert heat, so I take him to the park at about 10 pm every night.  Just me and my dog running and playing in the grass in the dark.

I look forward to it all day.
