Seller Tip: A Clean Home is a Happy Home and Happy Homes Sell

"Life's too short to clean your own home."

I remember reading this on a marketing piece for a housecleaning service and it just popped into my head as I recalled a recent experience...

"Life's too short to clean your own home."

REALLY?

Had a showing last night and was not at all amused.Who wants a clean house?

Still trying to figure out exactly what happened.

First of all, it was only after a week's span of 4 different attempts at appointments that I was able to gain entry into the property.  Called the showing service.  Declined several times. Called the listing agent. Ignored several times.  Granted, I needed showing times outside the normal range to accommodate my hard-working buyers' schedules but, beyond that, I finally got an appointment confirmation from the sellers via Centralized Showings.

Cut to the chase  -  Why-oh-why did I bother?

Seriously.

My hair, my clothes, my very being...were all beyond funky when I left that place.

I was freshly showered when I entered.

It wasn't your average untidy home.  Trust me, I know messy. I'm married with 2 children.

But enough about me.

There was nastiness at every turn in this home and the sellers sat right in the family room, smoking cigarettes and watching TV as I showed their home to my dumbstruck buyers.

Umm...I apologized to the buyers FOR the sellers.

Really, I did.

Note to seller: Please clean your home before you list it and keep it clean while it's on the market...unless. of course, you're not really wanting to sell?

No?

Just sayin',

Lanette - sad thing is sometimes they just DON'T CARE and I have encountered that myself.

Short Sale, both times -

one ran a nail saloon in his house, not by him but by his relatives.  We made appointment to see the condo.  A nail cart was in the middle of the small family room, and people were in and out.  Stuff everywhere.

The other one leaves dirty dishes and garbage at the very FIRST BROKER OPEN and FIRST PUBLIC OPEN.  I had to do dishes.

They are MY CLIENTS and I have talked to them many, many times; offering to come and clean for them, straighten for them, they refused.  What do you do.  They are losing their home and they just don't care, I think!   I did not even take pictures for one - the seller did it herself and those pictures were not quite usable, IMHO.

But at least the houses do not stink.

Sylvia, this one was a SHORT SALE, too.

I feel for you - working w/sellers who don't really seem to care.  It makes you wonder whether they really want to sell or not.  You'd think the answer to that would be "Yes" but you really never know where some folks are coming from at times...
