King Kong Lives!

Here on Kauai, King Kong appears to be alive and well perched high atop a mountain range outside of Anahola.  Can anyone spot the big fella in this photo?

While I've not done the climb, I'm told you can visit him up close and personal with access via nearby Hokualele Rd.  With Kauai as his home, is anyone surprised that the 1976 King Kong remake was filed here?

Richard, Why haven't you done the climb?  I know I would if I was there!

Do you think it's safe?  I've heard he's a feisty fellow.

Richard magnificent shot, looks like from the top of the mountain you could reach out and touch the clouds.

Hmmm, I guess you could say the fellow has his head in the clouds?

A friend of mine and I climb kong back in about 02 or 03. We went up the left side ridge line.  The rock is extremely loose.  Just about every hold was suspect.  Most of our gear was slinging bushes and a few piton placements that were not real solid.  We left a few bolts and pitons with slings as anchors to get back off the thing.  We climbed up via the left ridgeline in the photo and accessed the peak from the side this photo is showing.  It was fun, and we saw no signs of anyone else having been up there.  Asked many of the locals in the area and they only told us that the few who tried to go up were either killed or serously injured.  Never could find any positive info about previous ascents.

Volvanic rock can be very crumbly and many have died climbing.  Not sure about King Kong but I've heard of it in Kalalau.
