One Cowboy Bob Short & Two Regular Bob's Too Many
If you take a drive down Hamner Ave between Fifth and Sixth Street, you'll notice a peculiar hatted fellow in suspenders. No, its not the Mad Hatter, but Norconians are plenty mad about hats.
Bob, the big boy in red and white checkered pants and suspenders has been an American icon for many years, and Norco, California, aka HorseTown USA intends for this Bob's Big Boy to become a local icon as well.
You see, the equestrian-themed city has erected and decorated the town with anything horse or cowboy. For example, the water tower turned Jack in the Box sign at the 15 Freeway on-ramp at Sixth Street dons the HorseTown USA Norco sign.
To continue the theme, the Bob's Big Boy at 3521 Hamner Avenue was expected to install two westernized Bobs. One in front of the hamburger restaurant and one on the roof. Instead, three Bobs were installed- one Cowboy Bob in front, one regular Bob in the parking lot and another regular Bob on the roof.
The owner of the Bob's Big Boy, James Tsai, and the city of Norco had originally agreed on two Cowboy Bobs, and the agreement included $7,000 in redevelopment funds to make it happen.
So what did happened? The city assumed Tsai would outfit the Bobs statues he already had, but the owner bought a new $9,200 Cowboy Bob. Unfortunately, the Bob's Big Boy owner is claiming he has no more money for a second western Bob.
One city councilman said of the original Bob "We wanted him (original Bob) to really go away. I'm afraid it's going to dilute Cowboy Bob to have so many Bobs. Maybe it's better to have one special Bob." Tsai suggests the city buy him another Cowboy Bob, and that he donate one of the original Bobs to the city of Norco so they can auction it off.
But what about the other original Bob?
