Having served on the board of the Calcasieu Historical Preservation Society and as a dues-paying member, I can attest first-hand to the value of this important group. Sure, I had to learn to live with those who joke about the "histerical society." Fortunately, I know that the numbers who appreciate the mission of CHPS outweighs those who don't care about preservation.
In an effort to support the Calcasieu Historical Preservation Society and their website, I will be highlighting some of their major functions over the next few days. For now, lets start with their mission and membership cost. This mission alone should be enough to motivate Lake Charles area residents to join. And, when you check out the various membership fees, you'll see that this is one of the best membership values available!!!

"The mission of the Calcasieu Historical Preservation Society (CHPS) is to encourage the preservation of historical buildings, objects, and places relating to the history of Louisiana and Calcasieu Parish, including its natural beauty and all that is distinctive to our state.
One of the primary ways that CHPS accomplishes this mission is to recognize those who have contributed toward the preservation of buildings, objects and places.
This is done by presenting awards to deserving property owners via the Calca Commendation and the Landmark Awards."
