Has anyone else tried Radio.....

By
Real Estate Agent with David Alan Love, Realtors

Some 15 years ago before I started selling Real Estate, my job keep on the road 3-4 hours a day. I always listened to Talk Radio. A few years after I started my ReaL Estate career, I started buying Radio time for advertising and one day after talking to the station manager, we came up with an idea to do The Real Estate Minute. During the morning, afternoon and evening newscast, they would play a pre-recorded one minute message on various subjects on Real Estate. It got me some business mainly by getting my name out in the public. I always wanted to take it a little further but had to wait until a new manager showed up at the station who agreed with me.

For past 2.5 years, I have been doing a Real Estate radio call in show every Saturday morning at 10:08 AM on Newstalk 1480 KYOS here in Merced and the results in many ways have been very, very good. First of all, in August of 2001, I had a stroke and lost my speech. I spent several months, three days a week, in therapy learning how to speak again. So.. doing a talk show is very theraputic. The next good thing is you really have to do your homework and select subjects and guest that appeal to a large part of the community. Constant learning. Guess what? Soon you are gaining expertise in many areas and percieved as the local expert. And it creates a substatial amount of business. Not like sending out a postcard and figuring what percentage of response you will recieve. It is more of a steady stream each week.

In a small market, I am reaching between 6-8 thousand listners each week. At some point, almost all will need real estate advice or services and better yet, they will tell 10 other people. The cost is reasonable compared to other venues and you can find sponsers. One of the reasons I was asked to join my current Broker (and sponser of the show) is because he an avid listner and was hooked on it. It's fun to do,too.

Anyway, if you are interested in doing something like this in your market, let me know. I would be happy to help. We all learn when helping each other.

David, look up Margaret Rome on AR.  She has a radio show.  She often invites us to call in, and I know quite a few people have.

As a ex-dj of 18 years, I have done some things with radio and working around town at local events. Love the wide range of people that radio can attract and interact with prior to them ever meting you. It is a lot like Active Rain, the people get to know you and your business prior to ever calling you.
