Valencia, CA vs. Santa Clarita, CA??? They're both great!!
Okay, so, yes this is the city of Santa Clarita. But, it's still Valencia! In the past month, I've a few discussion with various friends about living in Valencia. Now, please understand...these were all lighthearted...but each friend said "oh, you Valencia people! Why don't you just say you live in Santa Clarita?!"
Well, yes, for the most part, the community of Valencia does lie in the boundaries of Santa Clarita; but not ALL of Valencia is in the city of Santa Clarita. For instance, Valencia Westridge is not. The newer Valencia West Hills and Valencia West Creek have recently been annexed to the city of Santa Clarita. However, all Valencia neighborhoods are in the Santa Clarita Valley.
These are some of the explanations I give to home buyers that are new to the area. For those of us "old timers" in the Santa Clarita Valley, we still refer to our communities, whether it is Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, or Canyon Country by the community name. because that's still how we associate our neighborhoods. When we became a city, over 20 years ago, the post office allowed us to keep our community names, and most "old timers" did.
I guess since I have lived in Valencia for over 45 years, it's hard to break the habit! But, yes...it is in the city of Santa Clarita!! :) And I love living here.
Flashback to the 60"s!
The original Valencia Old Orchard community attracted many young families because of the well laid out streets and cul-de-sacs, community clubhouses; now, it's such a pleasure to see how the landscaping has matured. It offers a pleasant relaxing time to enjoy nature...just steps from your front door!
