If you're wondering why the Murrieta schools start so early in the school year, it is to shorten the summer and lengthen the Thanksgiving break to a full week, the Christmas break to three weeks and the Spring Break to two weeks.
This year, in addition, we will be off about 7 different days that otherwise would have been school days. The Murrieta schools district's financial situation, however, resulted in having the teachers agree to 7 furlough days so that no teachers would lose their jobs. For comparison, many schools across the state have had to fire many teachers and in addition have their teachers take furlough days.
