Red Rocks Amphitheater Morrison CO things to do Between Denver and BoulderSummer is on the wane, and I haven't written all the posts I wanted to about things to do between Denver and Boulder. I CAN'T let you miss out on visiting Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison CO.

One of my favorite things is to visit Red Rocks Amphitheater for any reason at all. We take out of town guests when there isn't even anything going on. We're never alone, it's a favorite local spot for hanging out, picniking, hiking and biking, and imagining yourself onstage in front of a huge crowd. Sometimes you actually get a spontaneous show of one kind or another!

There's a souvenir shop, restaurant, and visitor center where you'll be amazed at the performers that have found themselves at this stunning venue.

It's great to go at sunset, even though the amphitheater faces east. The darkening sky from this magnificent vantage point is an incredible show.

And that, of course, is one thing that makes it such a great place to go to a concert or to Film on the Rocks. The rock formations on both sides are massive and the ground drops down in front of you to the stage, then the geography spreads out below that. I don't believe there's any amphitheater like it anywhere else.

I don't have any pics from concerts, these are from Film on the Rocks.  We went last year, to see Ghostbusters. The crowd was a hoot, the weather was perfect, the band that performed before the show was Opie Gone Bad.  A REALLY fun evening.

Hi Joetta, This is a great post about one of my old favorite places to go. My husband and I saw many o good concert at Red Rocks and I used to have a great view of the amphitheatre out of my old bedroom window when I was a teen.  Fantastic Photos!

WOW, I can't believe how many people they got to show up! We are lucky to get a couple hundred show up at our movies in the park, I wonder what the difference is.

Opie Gone Bad is a pretty popular local band, so that helps draw folks. But the venue is quite incredible, not your typical park!

Is that the Red Rocks where the Moody Blues did their reunion concert back in 1992? I think so.

@ Russel, Yes this was the venue for the Moody Blues in 1992.  I read where this was the first live concert they played with a full orchestra.  WOW, I would have loved to have been there too Joetta!
