I just got back from the annual GoettaFest in Northern Kentucky (just over the bridge from Cincinnati) If you don't know what goetta is you probably can't claim to have ever lived in Cincinnati or it's surrounding areas.
To prove my point, I am providing the Wikipedia definition of Goetta.
- Goetta is a peasant food of German origin that is popular in the greater Cincinnati area. It is primarily composed of ground meat and oats. Pronounced gétt-aa, ged-da or get-uh Americanized pronunciation, this dish originated with German settlers from the northwestern regions of Oldenburg, Hannover, and Westphalia who emigrated to the Cincinnati area in the 19th century. The word "Goetta" comes from the Low German word götte.
While Cincinnatians can claim the origin of goetta, I don't want to claim that all Cincinnatians really enjoy this not so healthy delicacy. I strongly recommend that you give it a try but I think you will have to wait for your next visit to Cincinnati!
