Jing: This awesome little screen recorder is a breeze to use (and free, for now anyway)

This morning I was reading John Jantsch's Duct Tape Marketing blog (by the way, this is an awesome blog if you want to get the early bird scoop on incredibly cool products.)  Case in point, he posted about the Jing Project, a free downloadable screen recorder from one of our favorite companies, Techsmith.

(Techsmith makes the very affordable Snagit, which makes capturing screen graphics to use in your marketing and website a piece of cake, and the more hefty Camtasia, which is great for recording and editing screen videos, plus making videos of Powerpoint presentations.)

Anyway, knowing the company it didn't take long for me to figure out that this would probably also rock, so in about 5 minutes I had Jing downloaded and tried it out by making a 3 minute home staging video tutorial using a couple of before-and-after photos.

Here's my favor to ask of you all:

Would you take a look at my video and tell me what you think?  Honestly - I'm thinking of doing a bunch of these and having them on our site for agents.  (It's only about three and a half minutes long.)

I'd love to know if it's helpful, or what would make it more helpful.  And if you get half way through it and find your mind wandering, I need to know that too.:)

(Just keep in mind that I woke up at 5:30 this morning to the soothing sound of my dog going paw-to-paw with a raccoon, so maybe phrase criticism a tad gently - just for today. :)

Anyway, here's the link to the home staging video:

Hope someone finds this, and Jing helpful - and if anyone finds a cool way to use Jing in their business we'd love to hear about it!

P.S.  Forgot to mention, as part of this project you also get a free account with Screecast, so as soon as you're done recording, if you like your video (which can have sound) they upload it to their Screencast site and give you a link to your video.

(Importantly, with Screencast you retain the copyrights to your stuff - unlike a lot of online video hosting places.)

Hi Michelle and Irene --- WOW I am impressed.  I think your site is great.  My only comment is could you change the arrow to something else.  I loved your demo.  Aloha

Hi Ann, No equipment is needed (OK, you do need a computer :)  Just download the program from Jing, it will run on its own.  You do need a microphone or some way to record audio input on your computer if you want sound with your videos - you can pick up headphone/mike combos that work as soon as you plug them in at any computer store.

Cheers,
Irene
