Carl Hayden Community High School Robotics Club is located in Phoenix Arizona. It has been a low-performing school for years and is not expected to change.
But there are bright spots for students to grab on to.
Faridodin Lajvard: the name is hard to pronounced, but the teacher is inspiring. His students just call him 'Coach Fredi' or Ledge.
Back in August of 2009 there was some discussion and talk about robotics and what it can do. The passion is robotics. And the teacher and students share it. This is a way to expand his passion about a field he does not teach.
Don't we have passions that are not necessarily what we are paid to do each day in our profession? Sure!
So, now there is a place for students who can stick it out to learn and excel in this exciting new field of robotics.
The chance is to learn about robotics and chance their lives. Some do, many don't. Many of the students come from homes that don't speak English and don't have the same benefits that many students from other schools have. But, inspiration comes from many different places.
There are many reasons why students will participate. Some kids are just smart. There are others who have mechanical skills. And then there are others who think it is just way cool. A couple of years ago the students beat out a bunch of colleges, including MIT, to win an underwater robotics competition. Wow, that is one for them to remember.
Congratulations to Coach Fredi. Please continue to inspire your students this year again.
