Popular Remodels - Bathrooms get the Top Spot
Bathrooms tend to be the most popular remodels done in the home. Kitchens were high on the wish list, but
according the National Association of Home Builders, the first six months 61% of remodels completed were bathrooms.
Kitchen remodels were 47.9% of the remodels in years past, but have now decreased to 40.7%. There was also a decrease of larger remodeling projects such as additions, whole house remodeling, bathroom additions and second story additions.
If there is equity in a seller's home, (and credit is sufficient), equity home loans are affordable and popular. These projects add comfort, functionality and also adds value to your home.
Whether you are considering a large project or a smaller one, it is always good to do your homework prior to starting construction. Get a few bids, get references and know exactly what to expect going into this project. Make sure to get a timeframe to expect in writing, and also if it goes past that date, what discounts (or reductions in cost) will be available.
If you plan to remain in the property for 5 years or less, it may be good to do only a few upgrades, do not go outlandish in decor and to use very neutral paint.
Four good ideas -- 1. Write down your whole project and know what direction you want to take. 2. Slow down - do not rush into a project without knowing exactly what you are getting into. 3. Let there be light - Bathrooms always look better in light. (windows and lighting) 4. Keep it clean - make sure ventilation is good, it should not smell of mold or mildew.
