Map/Directions

Each Tuesday the San Antonio Museum of Art offers free admission and extended hours. Enjoy sketching in the galleries led by local artists, lectures, gallery talks and more... Stroll along SAMA's new River Landing to explore the Museum Reach lighting and entertainment along the Riverwalk.

Located in the building originally built in 1884 as the Lone Star Brewery, the San Antonio Museum of Art is one of the most impressive art museums in Texas. Its permanent collection contains Asian Art, European and American paintings, and my favorite... antiquities from the Greek and Roman era. The Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Latin American Art presents an extensive collection of pre-Columbian art, Latin American Folk art, Spanish Colonial art, and Contemporary Latin American art.

You won't be disappointed.

Shirley,

Wonderful post, we will put it on our to see list when we visit San Antonio.  Texas sure has some wonderful museums with great exhibits like the Fort Worth Museum with its sizeable collectionof Georgia O'Keefes.

I love free Tuesdays.  The Walker here in Minnesota has done that in the past.  I'm not sure if it is still doing it.

And, thanks Ron and Alexandra, I LOOOOVVVE Georgia O'Keefe.  Such sensuous paintings.

Now, book a flight to San Antonio to see Shirley!!!!

It is great that the museum offers free days to the public.  Sacramento's own Crocker Art Gallery is scheduled to reopen on 10.10.10.  It's been closed for major renovation.

Robin, I would love to meet you when you come down.  Give me a call.

Ron & Alexandra, Thanks.  I haven't yet visited the Ft. Worth museum.

Come on down, Suzanne!

Myrl, you will have to post about the museum once the renovation is complete.

Angelia, Dallas has a new arts complex that I am dying to see.

Hi Carl & Ceil, I would like to go back again.

Hi Dale, Free is always good!
