Getting the Most Bang for Your Buck – Remodeling Your Germantown Home

By
Real Estate Sales Representative with Re/Max Town Center
We’ve all seen the HGTV show Most Bang for your Buck and have wondered if its really accurate. Well, the answer is: sometimes, mostly, not always; what do you think?! The reason I say this is that every homeowner puts their own value on a remodel project. If the homeowner is adding a balcony to his daughter’s window because the daughter likes to pretend she’s Juliet, then the payback may be more emotional than financial. But that doesn’t mean that the homeowner shouldn’t do it! If you are thinking about making improvements to your home to increase its livability for your family and you plan on staying the home for 5-10 years, then go ahead. But if your home plans are short term and you’re hoping to get a financial return on your investment, then follow the below guidelines as stated by Better Home and Gardens via Realtor.com

BHG stated that the below statistics are about 10 years old, but that they may still give you an idea of what your return on investment may be for some of the most popular remodeling projects.

  • Minor kitchen remodeling: 94%  return
  • Bathroom addition: 89%  return
  • Major kitchen remodeling: 87%  return
  • Family room addition: 84%  return
  • Two-story addition: 84%  return
  • Attic bedroom conversion: 83%  return
  • Master suite addition: 82%  return
  • Bathroom remodeling: 73%  return
  • Siding replacement: 71%  return
  • Deck addition: 70%  return
  • Whole-house window replacement: 68%  return
  • Home office addition: 64%  return
So what do you think? We’d love to hear your stories and experiences. Feel free to comment below.
