Joey's grandma locked him in the fridge....

We were going through our morning routine getting the kids ready for school and my wife came across what we thought was a journal entry in my son's notebook.  She was shocked and showed it to me and I was equally shocked.  It was about a boy named Joey who has ADHD.  My son went on to say how he sort of understood why Joey acted the way he did.  After all wouldn't anybody be hyper active if their grandmother locked them in a refigerator as punishment?

What?  Some kid at his school got locked in fridge by his grandmother?  Holy cow.  Something needs to be done!  So I took the page out of his notebook and made a copy of it on the home office copier.  After all I would need for evidence to show the school administrators.  Now before I marched off to school to get grandma put in jail I decided that maybe I should try to get a little more info from Ryan.

So when he came downstairs fro breakfast I asked "The story that you wrote about your friend Joey, Is that based on an actual conversation you had with him?"

Ryan:I don't have friend named Joey?

Me:  The boy you wrote about that has ADHD?

Ryan: Uhmmmm.... that was about a book we are reading.
Then he laughed :-)

Whew,  I'm glad we didn't need to contact social services about that.....

Bob, when a fictional story seems so plausible, it is hard to tell reality from imaginary...Its been so hot lately I have considered climbing in the refrigerator myself recently.

LOL - I'm with you, I'd have been stressed out about what to do! As happy as I am this was a fictional, the sad thing is many things like this happen every day that aren't. Hopefully, people like you who pay attention and care will make the difference. :-)

Hello Bob - All it takes is a little context sometimes.  Glad to hear that it was just a book and not a friend at school.

Thanks for all the great comments.  The sad thing is that we had to even consider that it may be true.  Luckily my wife mentioned that we should probably talk to our son about it to get some more backgound before we reported grandma to the authorities....
