This year I never got around to planning or planting a vegetable garden simply because I have been so damn busy and my husband simply wasn't feelin' it. Luckily for me, due to the lack of rain and mandatory limited use of water, I didn't have the disappointment and frustration others have experienced with their vegetable gardens. I am going to come clean and mention the handful of times I did water (with guilt!) my butterfly garden and the recently planted shrubs I have in front of my home. I also will share with you I do have well water but the guilt and shame is still there.
One of my usual trail runs takes me down and around Silver Lake and pass the Croton Community Garden, (kudos to the efforts of the Village and residents who have organized the garden!), and let me tell you how tremendous the results are with such an array of plentiful produce...it is a sight to see! Depending on my schedule my run takes me by at different hours of the day and I see the volunteers and those lucky lottery winners with their bountiful garden.
I happened to have my Iphone with me on a recent day and I had to stop and take a photo of this lush and well planned garden. Being around nature always puts me in a good mood but seeing the collaborative effort of many residents with the vision of a sustainable organic garden gives off a feeling of community well being, and well, it's all so positive and we all could use more good stuff in our lives.... and hey, I'm all for home grown!
The community garden has made me stop and think about the garden I could have had this year, an abundant garden for my family and one to share with friends. I promise next year I will have the foresight to plan and carve out time to have a garden full of the herbs and veggies. For me, nature has this easy pure way of creating good energy and emotions, what better way to give back to yourself, and your dinner plate, by gardening or just being in nature. When you have a moment be sure to come on down and take a look at this truly well planned garden, it's in a perfect natural setting, and you might want to bring a blanket and stay awhile.
