Hi Everybody ,
Hope I don't get to Geeky for you here but this was a major problem for my PC yesterday and I wanted to share with my fellow A/R peeps and give a heads up.
This is for PC users only right now as far as I know. Not sure about Mac's using Windows.
Do you own a new computer with Windows 7 with the 64 bit operating system installed with it?
Do you have McAfee virus protection as well?
Have you noticed anything lately when you try to update your virus definitions?
Well apparently after much consternation and many phone calls to McAfee I found out that there is an ongoing problem with McAfee presently to their Internet Security Center updates and 64 bit Windows 7 operating systems.
Warning: Do not try to upload their updates or you will end up with this screen or something not quite as dramatic as this but still plenty scary..
They don't call it the blue screen of death for nothing....
After McAfee updates your definitions it will bring you back into a loop and shut down your computer over and over. You have to stop this or it may ruin your system as it dumps all your memory cache each time.
Almost like a virus even though it's not.
What has to be done to prevent this and back up your system is to reboot and push th F8 key until you bring up your boot options.
Then start up in safe mode and do a system restore.
This must be done or you will keep crashing.
Restart again in Safe Mode and uninstall the McAfee program so as to not keep updating the program as soon as you boot up.
McAfee told me they are working on this and will have a fix for it in about 2-3 weeks!
McAfee has not announced this anywhere that I have seen yet, so maybe I'm one of the first to experience this little issue.
So now I have no desktop with a Virus Scan enabled until McAfee engineers come up with a solution to their 64bit compatibility problems for Windows 7.
Just thought I'd pass that along.
Anybody else seen this happen to them yet?
Pretty frustrating, I'll tell ya...
Thanks for reading this. Hope I could help somebody out there.
Keep Safe out there everybody!
