To Link Build or Not to Link Build --That is the Question

Not long ago you could go out and purchase a couple of solid links and see yourself move up the list for terms you are going after and find yourself on page one in no time.  Now it seems as though the web is more competitive and google gives less value to links as a whole.

That leaves you in the delima of spending money for something that may give benefit or not.  What do you do?

Not a big fan of purchasing links to move up in Google. I have a site that ranks number 2 for our area real estate and never purchased a link.

I got penalized for my links 3-4 years ago and have been running gun shy ever since.

Purchased links from known link-selling sites will penalize you but non-reciprocal links from trusted and relevant sites will give you a lot of benefit in rankings.

Yeah, links from good sites are good.

Another thing I am talking about other than purchasing links directly is spending money on "link bait" on your web site.  You can put a lot of money into building something that people will link to, but are you really benefitting now?
