Don't know whether to thank Christopher or smack him. I enjoyed telling people I belonged [Well I use to ;)] to a gym. Just saying it made me feel in shape. I pretended the monthly membership fee deducted from my account automatically deducted inches from my waist.
Here Christopher gives us ideas about working out that let's you kill two birds with one stone. No more excuses.
You don't have to belong to a gym or buy expensive home gym equipment to get a beneficial workout. To improve your health and fitness, all you really need is a pair of good athletic shoes and some common household items. Remember to begin any workout by stretching thoroughly.
- Cardiovascular Conditioning - any aerobic activity can provide a workout opportunity. Walking, running, hiking, biking, swimming or playing sports like tennis, softball, even golf can raise your heartrate. Chores like cutting grass with a push mower, vacuuming the carpet, carrying groceries or a laundry basket can be great exercise. Even playing fun games with your kids, like jump rope and tag can be aerobic acitivites.
- Strength Training: Upper Body - push ups and chin ups are wonderful ways to build upper body strength. Move through the exercises slowly and focus on your targeted area. You can do curls with dumbbells, or canned vegetables will also add some extra weight. And don't forget crunches to work those abs.
- Strength Training: Lower Body - squats and lunges work your legs, buttocks and improve endurance. Hold a broom across your shoulders to help you keep the correct posture.
