Sanford NC Things to do: Camelback Bridge and Deep River Park

By
Real Estate Agent with None
Camelback Bridge near Sanford NC One of the oldest bridges in the Sanford area goes over Deep River from Lee to Chatham County. This bridge is called Camelback Bridge and is named for the hump shape the steel trusses on the bridge make.  The bridge was erected in 1910.
There is a small park st the site of this bridge called Deep River park. There are a couple of picnic shelters at the park. The shelter on the right is designed to accommodate wheelchairs. Picnic shelter
Deep River below Camelback Bridge The scenery around the bridge is very lush and green. This park is frequently used as a put in and take out point for local canoers and kayakers. The park is also used by local fishermen (and women) as a fishing spot.
Camelback Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Find out more details of the bridge:  Bridge facts
Camelback Bridge plaque
Deep River from Camelback Bridge We had a beautiful view of the Deep River from the bridge on the day of our visit. To get to the park, take Cumnock Road North from US 421. Follow the road until you cross the Deep River and the park will be on your left.

Mike,

The Deep River is a favorite local place for paddlers to put in their canoes or kayaks.  On days like today swamping the canoe would be mighty tempting!

Denver NC is about 2 hours west of here.  Sanford is about an hour southwest of Raleigh.

There is a lot of history in the area dating back to before the revolutionary war.  I really enjoy history too - sometimes you can almost feel those who were there before you.

OK.  My best friend just moved to Moorseville NC. She is an agent here in Wellington but now she is going to get her license up there so I will introduce you two and you could do some great referrals together. Marie and I are also working on something you will be interested in to get more leads. Katerina

Wow 1910!!

You are right about how much history is back there.  When we lived in Greensboro we were just a few miles from a Revolutionary War battleground.  The battle was for Guilford Courthouse and they lost but it crippled the English so that it was one of the turning points of the war.  Prior to living there I did not realize how much of the Revolutionary War was fought there.  We loved walking around that battleground and you are right you can almost feel those who were before you.

Katerina,

I am always interested in referrals and leads!  I hope your friend's move to North Carolina goes well.

Thesa,

I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to leave the scenery you have there in Central Oregon.

Ashley,

Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting.  I love sharing Sanford with everyone.

Paula,

I hope I get a restful afternoon soon to - I am booked up the rest of the week!

Marchel,

There is a neat site near here called House in the Horseshoe where you can see the bullet holes in the walls of the house from a revolutionary war skirmish!

Joanne,

I can't wait to get some local photos this fall.  A lot of the parks and places around here are really pretty when the leaves change.  By the time we have fall leaves around Halloween you'll probably be skiing in Colorado.
