I Got a Lead from Active Rain Without Blogging

Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services McNelis Group Properties

I Got a Lead from Active Rain Without Blogging.  As Realtors we spend a lot of time figuring out where our business is coming from, where our next lead is coming from - if business will come. Sometimes our business comes from places we are not expecting. Sometimes maybe we shouldn't think too much about where our business will come from.

I hadn't really thought about blogging in this way, though. As many of us do, I try to incorporate blogs about local communities. For my most recent blog I decided to go take a few additional pictures in a community where I have a few pictures of amenities I use with listings there. I pulled into a gated parking lot, asked the gate attendant if it would be alright if I took a few pictures, which he agreed to. As I was returning to my car, the gate attendant's Mom (she was bringing her son dinner-must be his summer job) came up to me, asked me about the market and told me that they are planning a move and that she was impressed with my proactiveness, card exchanged .......

This experience revealed two opportunities to me - that by my taking pictures for my blog made it possible for me to prospect and demonstrate that I try to showcase what a community has to offer AND then to follow-up with information directing them to my blog and showing them how blogging adds to internet presence - another Active Rain win.

I Got a Lead from Active Rain Without Blogging - Another example of how you just never know where opportunity lies.

thank you for blogging this.  I have started doing this as well, but only considered it as a way to 'spice up' my hyper-local blog posts.  now I know better, well done

Deborah, I've never been much on cold-calling. This is an easier way for me to put myself out there.

Tammy, absolutely a lot of luck, but it got me thinking.

Pippa, this has definitely made me look at lead generation differently!

Daniel, it goes beyond the blog itself, apparently. Best of luck to you!

Margaret, I think this will help me to have more fun with blogging.  It certainly gives me something to look back on during times that slow a bit to help keep me going.

Harj, thanks for the positive thoughts.

But you did benefit from preparing for a blog... if you hadn't been at that very place taking photos you probably would have never met that person who may be a future client.

Irene, I was pretty happy to have my "horizons expanded".

Jennifer, I'll really glad I asked if it was OK and told him who I was - probably wouldn't have met her otherwise.

Coral and Lisa, you make a good point about being "out there". Blogging tends to require a lot of time behind the computer

It helps to get out and make connections rather than sitting around in the real estate office all day.  I've taken photos and plan to take more of local attractions in the Hampton Roads area.  A great post!  Thanks.

Goes to show that a little creativity, mixed with some foresight, goes a long way. You never know where leads are going to come from.

Monica, happy picture taking - hope it works out for you!

Lynne, I've never been much on spending time in the office. Not that opportunities can't come along, but never seemed too likely to me.

Eric, I always to try to stay creative and think outside the box - I feel like that's where my strengths lie and what will benefit me.

Susan -

That is one of the best stories I've heard yet about the power of blogging!  FYI - Calvert County was my second home when my parents lived at Scientist Cliffs.  Beautiful country down there.

Your caring... being out there taking photos so you could promote an area spoke volumes to those watching you do it and it paid off!

Congrats on the lead, Susan! The great thing about the process of blogging is that it forces us to actively engage in our neighborhoods. Taking photos is a great way to see and be seen. Hopefully you'll be taking some listing photos soon!

Michael, my experience changed my way of looking at blogging for sure. Scientists Cliffs is a very neat area. I live in Solomons and just love it.

Judy, it is a lot about caring and wanting to share the area with others, but I'm glad that at the same time I may benefit.

John, you're right. There's more to it than sitting behind the computer and writing - need to have real life experiences to write about.
