There are TWO posts that I recommend you read if you read nothing else on Activerain.
Several months ago I had to stop checking the box, To Receive Comments, because I could NOT handle all the emails from the comment section. Now I just stop back in from my home page to see if anyone responded to my comments. We all want to be recognized and so I have found that this very effective. Sometimes I want to continue the dialog and sometimes it is Friday night fun. These 2 posts, I never unchecked my box.
The first post I would encourage everyone to read (I'm sure most of you have, but this is for the new rainers) and that is Laurie Mannys post on Do you SEO? 
Laurie has over 265 comments on a post written on March 14th !! They are still coming in, fast and furious. I am in awe that a post has been going on since March to August and it is still feeding the people. Just since I have been writing this post 3 more comments have come in.
The second post I recommend is by TLW, Have You Considered Reciprocating Comments ? This is the second post that is still going strong at 199 comments since July 3rd.
Lately there have been numerous posts on Why do you blog ? The overall answers are for the relationships and for SEO. (Search Engine Optimization)
These two posts are the best summaries for why we are here, how we go about forming relationships, and why we blog for Google. Do you have business from Activerain? Have you formed relationships ? 
I subscribe to 157 people on Activerain and I read their posts daily. I respect them and want to hear what they are saying. I comment ALL the time. When I first started blogging in December, no I did not get many comments, (truth be told they were pretty bad.) But, I started commenting on posts and voila reciprocity kicked in.
