Confessions of a Flip Flop... flippy flop...

flip flop

My brother is probably right that hearing a dorm full of college students walking past his room endless times a day going "flip flip flip" down the hall is quite annoying. I really can't blame his aversion to the raging summer shoe fad.

His feelings against the ever comfortable floppy shoe has not deterred me in the least from wearing and loving my favorite summer slipper by any means.

The thing about my brother's flip floppy issues is that when you warm the summer to a certain degree... he even digs out his long lost pair of flippers. (I know because I saw them this week!)

In real estate flip flops are really not the most professional footwear, but I have to admit to wearing them everywhere. My clients have all seen me in flippy shoes and it isn't likely to change while the weather stays warm.

They are just the best!

From the moment that my feet hit the floor in the morning until I sit at night I have shoes on my feet. It only makes sense to wear the most universal shoe around.

And, yes, all the flippers to the right are mine. I just loaded up at Target. I've managed to wear out two pairs this summer and chose to take advantage of clearance prices.

Anyways, like I was saying... from feeding chickens to weeding my garden to heading to the park or visiting clients my flippies always make sense. The only thing I haven't really mastered is running in them.

If they are dirty I hose them down and cool my feet at the same time. Soak my feet and shoes in the sun for two minutes and everything is ready to go again.

If I head to a client's house it's easy off and easy on with no panic of messing their carpets.

For showings it is the avoidance of removing strappy shoes that take me undo time at the door. I hate getting into a home and spending the whole time my clients are looking taking on and off my shoes. This eases the whole process and lets me move on.

They may not be classy, but my flippers can be worn with shorts, jeans, dresses... just all over universal.

So, if you have an aversion to flippy flops like my brother I am truly sorry. I realize that I'm part of the public walking down the street leaving a "flop flop flop" behind me, but it is for good reason! And, it just works for my business. And, in the end it's no matter. In about a month I'll retire my floppers to the closet and will be digging out my toed and Minnesota winter shoes. I'm just hoping my feet have a nice tan to last the winter!

They are easy to take on and off. I live in any kind of sandals in the summer. No closed toes for me. I really like high quality outdoor river sandals...like Teva and Chaco. They can be functional, too. I don't mind getting them wet and I can just throw them in the washing machine to get them clean. I also do a lot fly fishing...work permitting of course. I can just walk out into the water without a care for my footwear. The high quality ones can even take you over rugged terrain. I once climbed a 14 thousand foot peak in a pair of river sandals. I'm not up for that kind of challenge everyday, but I had a toe injury and couldn't stuff my foot in a pair of closed toed shoes.

My wife and kids love the darn contraptions. I ask that they don't drive in their flippy floppies becuase one slip and you have flopped jalopies.

I was showing a house to a couple in the winter where the women was wearing them in the snow.  She told me that was all she wears.  She plays a lot adult coed league sports, I think that has something to do with it. But my point is Cleveland winters are not pleasant and to see people so obsessed about flip flops always amazes me.

Lindsey: I think you are not alone in your adoration of the flip flop. Maybe I'm wrong but I think wearing them for work is probably more acceptable for women than me.

Debbie - Nice to knwo that I'm not alone in my confessions!

Andrew - I like the statement flopped jalopies. It fits! Good that you are willing to put up with the flip flip if they are safe about it.

Stan - I admire those that can wear them all year. My toes get too cold. :)

Matt - You might be right. Though it'd be a statement in your suits with floppers at the bottom! If you go that route will you post it for all to see?

The sound of flip flops always reminds me of popping bubble gum.  I can imagine that with all the foot traffic in a dorm, it would get maddening...your brother has my sympathy!

Popping bubble gum? That's a new one on me Sharon, but I can tell you that I'm more aware than ever of the flippy flippy sound they make.
