If Your a Poor and Hungry Agent...Stand Up and Be Proud! Keep On Fighting, Don't Stop Now

I started real estate back in August 2009. I decided to do it full time to give it my all. I am fighting tooth and nail to make it work for me. It hasn't been easy. I have made a lot of mistakes along the way. But I truly feel that I am the best agent for my clients for the very reasons Jason Sardi describes in his post titled, Are You Cutting a Promo or Wanting People to do Business With You? Jason quotes, "When you are dealing with someone hungry, smart, and poor ... you can damn sure bet that (they) want it just as much as you." There have actually been some days this year when I literally WAS hungry, so I worked even harder for my clients. Luckily, I have had some friends and clients who have recognized this and have help to pull me through some dark times. Most of my clients have appreciated my hard work very much but the ignorant ones couldn't see the my selflessness if it were written on my bald head. I knew that by making them happy, satisfied clients that at the end of he day, I would then and only then have shelter over my head and food to eat for a little while longer. I am still fighting to find success because I don't give up that easy on anything I set my mind to. It is not easy starting off in a business in which everyone and their uncle is a agent; regardless whether or not they are good at it. It's not easy starting off in the heart of a downturn economy. But it has made me even stronger and has forced me to work even harder to achieve those goals I want to achieve. I have learned more because I have wanted more. I truly find inspiration in reading Active Rain blog posts. Thanks Sardi

When it looks bad, like you?re not gonna make it, that?s when you gotta get mean. I mean just plain mad dog mean. Cause if you lose your head and give up, then you neither win nor live. That?s just the way it is.

I really appreciate your attitude. I also joined this business when the market when downhill. I thought I could do okay because my husand had full time job, then he lost it, and then 3 major applicances went bad in our house. It was difficult, but I climbed that wall, and sometimes I started falling back down that wall, and my fingernails were raw and bleeding as I climbed back up. But after 3 years and 4 offices later...I'm still here. I"ve done everything to pay the bills...house sitting, selling things on ebay, BPOs and now I'm actually selling property. (and my hubby is also employed full time in a job he loves). So it does work out.

I have been around a long time in this business.  I have been through 2 booms and 2 busts so far.  The agents who join in the boom years are always the ones who wind up selling cars or insurance.  The ones who learn their skills in a market that challenges them are the ones who last.  You will be fine if you just keep at it and outlast the future car and insurance salesmen who have not yet left.

Terry - Well you definitely have the right attitude.  And it is comforting to know that you've had some friends to help you weather the proverbial storm.  You started at probably one of the tougher times the entire Industry will ever face (the downturn if you will).  Work harder, smarter, and I'm sure the ides of karma will align with you.  Hang in there, bub.

And Robert May is right to a large extent in his comment above.  I didn't start in the Mortgage end of it in the boom, but when I finally got out (company I was with went out of business after eight years and the other company/option was less than suitable for my tastes) I worked at a grocery store and call center before going into insurance.  I don't sell insurance, just work on the service side for now.  The Grateful Dead once sung a song that explains the last couple of years quite well:)

if you believe this is the avenue for you, then hang in there, do all the basics very well, and align yourself with some really good top producers - they often are happy to teach and share - sometimes even buyers that they dont want to ferry around !

Also, keep reading at ActiveRain - each day - I learn something new everytime I click back here :o)
