Great Falls Balloon Festival 2010 August 20 – 22!

Balloon FestivalYes, it is that time again. Lewiston and Auburn Maine will host the annual Great Falls Balloon Festival for all to enjoy. This is a special time for our area when our breathtaking views of the hills and river have the added decoration of scores of beautiful hot air balloons. On occasion a few residents have been able to entice the balloon crews to land in their yards where they produce the traditional bottle of champagne!

August 20, 2010 - August 22, 2010

Due to weather conditions, the best times for balloon launches are 6am and 6pm. Don't miss the “Breakfast with Balloons” Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 6am.

Times may need to vary depending on the conditions, but the popular Moon Glow (balloons tethered and lit up will occur each evening at Simard-Payne Memorial Park at nightfall.

Sky Dive New England will put on their show Friday at 7:30pm after the balloon launch.

All Events will take place at Festival Plaza in Auburn and Simard-Payne Memorial Park (formerly Railroad Park) in Lewiston.

The carnival will also be back this year on Lincoln Street in Lewiston, opening up Thursday evening and lasting through Sunday.

festival plazaDon't forget about the parade! Very cool event.  I took my first hot air balloon ride this year--a wonderful experience to watch but even better from the air.

Norma & Allen:  Yes, it is an awesome event!  The balloons take off from several different locations, one of which is a couple of blocks from my home, so we get to see them drift over our house quite close up.  We know to run and look when we hear the tell tale sound of them firing up.:)

When the weather conditions are calm, many of the balloons lower down to the river to skim the surface.  Fun to watch, but probably not the safest thing to do.  They are quite a sight to behold as they float above our town with the backdrop of the river and hills.

Wheeeeee balloons. s the Remax balloon going to make an appearance? A bottle of champagne would be an exceelent enticement to land a balloon in someone's yard. I wonder if you can lose your balloon license for BUI (ballooning under the influence)?

I haven't seen the ReMax balloon here yet.

We'll have to see if they test the whole BUI thing.  I'm sure there would be more than a few police officers here who would volunteer to patrol the skies.  The balloonists don't get the champagne though, they give it to the people whose yard they have landed in.
