Kettering, Ohio is the largest suburb of Dayton and is probably one of the most well known. Named for the famous inventor and philanthropist Charles F. Kettering probably one of its most notable citizens.
The area now known as Kettering was first settled by John Patterson Sr. in 1798 and in 1841 became Van Buren Township. I wasn't till June of 1955 that Van Buren Township became Kettering, Ohio.
Employers in the area include: GE Money, Kettering Medical Center, Delphi Corp. (previously Delco), Wilmer Hale (the 22nd largest law firm in the US), Reynolds and Reynolds and lets not forget Limited Brands, Inc. (dba Victoria's Secret).
Kettering seems to contribute a number of personalities to the sporting world this is just a short list, sorry to anyone I left out: John Paxson - former NBA player and now General Manager of the Chicago Bulls, Jim Paxson - former NBA player and now General Manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers (and yes they are brothers and attended Chaminade - Julienne High School in Dayton and the University of Dayton), Kyle Kramer - Former NFL Defensive Back of the Cleveland Browns, Andy Aracri - Defensive Tackle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, AJ Hawk - Linebacker with the Green Bay Packers, and Chris Borland - Current Wisconsin Badger football player, and 2009 Big 10 Freshman of the Year.
Kettering School System is centered around Fairmont High School with 2 middle schools and 9 elementary schools.
