Facebook Pages are changing, a lot of people will need to update and you only have 8 days left!

Real Estate Agent with MacWin Consulting

Last year there were rumors that Facebook was going to make a drastic change to the way Facebook Pages are displayed. Looks like the rumors were right. As of August 23rd your Facebook Page is going to be limited to 520 pixels. This might not sound like a big deal to Personal Profile owners, but for Facebook Page owners this could be an expensive and time consuming issue. Many Real Estate Agents and Brokerages have put a lot of time, effort and $$$ into creating custom "Facebook Page Landing Tabs" using FBML (Facebook Markup Language, a Facebook application). I myself have created 5 or 6 of them for my clients, luckily the ones I created were pretty basic and easily changed to fir the new requirements.

If you do have a Facebook Page, take a look at it. Facebook has started displaying a banner message and gives you a preview of what your Page will look like then the change occurs. Hopefully you're ok and if not you better get it updated!

According to Facebook the changes are based on feedback they received:

“These updates are designed to simplify navigation for users, reduce complexity for developers, and enable us to build the next generation of tools for growing your business with Facebook. We’ll share more of our plans for the roadmap in the coming weeks.”

I'll have to look at my page. Not too sure as to what might change. Guess I'll know in 8 days. Not really worried about it. After all, it is a free service that I get the privilege to use.

Thanks for clarifying, Todd!  I saw the info on the top of my FB page, but didn't understand if it applied to me or not.  I didn't do anything "fancy" with my page layout, so I should be safe - whew! I am not super-high-tech.  ;)

520 pixels is still very workable, about the width of many Wordpress content columns. Add one more project to my online to-do list.

Thanks for letting us know. I remember now hearing this awhile ago and then let it slide.

Thank you for the clarification on the changes that are going on.  It's one of those things that I received the notice and said:  "Oh yeah, I'll look into that later" and then it completely slips my mind.  I do not believe I have a lot of high-tech information on my page and will check to make sure things will remain the same. Thanks for the reminder!
